Hiiii Reader, As much as I'd like to be one of those copywriters who makes six figures, works from a stunning home office, & supports their family with *just* their online work... ...I'm not. I started Jaimie Lee Creative in 2018. When we lived in Costa Rica, the starting momentum I had was enough to support me, my wife, & our sweet pup, Rainy. (The cost of living in Costa Rica is also wildly different than in the US—some things are a lot cheaper, like rent, while others are super expensive, like Jiff peanut butter and cars. We did without a car and skipped the Jiff.) But after moving back to my hometown (hi, Seattle!), we quickly realized that my online income alone wasn't going to cut it. So for the past two years, I've *also* held a full-time retail position at a pet supply store. And honestly? I love it so, so much. Each day, I connect with local pet owners and help them find solutions that work for their pets, their lifestyle, and their budgets. I also comfort them when their dog is sick, when they’re at their wits end trying to find food their cat will eat, and cry with them when they donate supplies meant for a pet who has crossed the rainbow bridge. Plus, I get to take my two pups, Rainy and Juno, to work with me. They are loved and cared for by all of the staff at my second job, which is an incredible form of community care. Best of all, I’ve found an IRL group of friends/co-workers who support each other, laugh together, and cheer for each other at our fav gay dive bar’s karaoke night. 🧡 Tbh, I’m scared that sharing this with you might make you think I’m not a *serious* copywriter. But I also know that the human experience is endless. And from my pov, the core of my work as a copywriter is to find the words to encapsulate all the wonder that you are—as a business owner, a human being, a parent, a widower, a caregiver, or any of the other beautiful identities you hold. with love, Jaimie
